Workshops
Past Workshops: Snowbird Workshop 2015, Feb. 6-8 at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort.
Another year, another successful workshop in the books! The Sixth Annual SMPI Snowbird workshop concluded after three days of shooting in Snowbird’s amazing terrain and dynamic conditions. Everyone had a great time, and produced a ton of awesome skiing and snowboarding imagery. The workshop consisted of on-hill instruction, where attendees worked with a highly talented group of skiers and snowboarders while learning about composition and camera techniques. Daily classroom sessions provided image processing tutorials, and helpful feedback about each image captured each day. Phase One Cameras generously donated several of their high-end medium format camera systems for workshop attendees to use. They also provided a classroom demonstration of their powerful image processing software, Capture One. Hensel Lighting supplied a professional-grade lighting setup for attendees to learn how to effectively use strobes in ski and snowboard photography. Access to such new and innovative photo equipment for the weekend was incredibly exciting, and was an opportunity that would be difficult to come by outside of the workshop. The workshop was a huge success, and many incredible images were produced throughout the weekend. A big thank you to all the athletes and photographers who participated. A huge thanks goes to Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort for providing an incredible venue and support to make this workshop possible. Thank you as well to the workshop’s sponsors: Zeal Optics, Discrete Clothing, GoalZero, Pictureline, Izm Apparel, Snocru, Coola Suncare, Stance Socks, Gu Energy Labs, and F-Stop Gear. See you there next year!
What attendees said about their experience at SMPI Snowbird Workshop 2015:
“He (Scott) was down-to-earth, easygoing, and patient with the constant three-day flow of questions directed at him.”
“ If I had to pick out a couple of really meaningful things to me I'd point to ‘the little things’ and ‘confidence’. You can certainly learn a lot from books, videos, and traditional classroom instruction, but the little things that come from years of experience are special.”
“The workshop improved my skills as a photographer on and off the mountain.”
“Now knowing what to do in the context of an on-hill shoot means I no longer hesitate to ask an athlete to go out and shoot, knowing that I can deliver something I'll be proud of.”
